Your Watch, Your Story:

七転び八起き is a classic Japanese idiom, it means seven falls and eight rises

There will definitely be more failures than successes in life.

And in order to achieve success you will first have to preserve through all these failures

A saying by Jack Ma:

Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine.

unfortunately most people can’t last until tomorrow night and cannot witness the beautiful sunrise.

We all know that perseverance is the key to success, but the real question is not what but HOW?

Friedrich Nietzsche have an interesting theory on tragedy,

applying it into “seven falls and eight rises “when people failed the 4th time:

Pessimistic would react

(I have already failed 4 time, its a sign for me to quit)

it is fact driven but zero perseverance

Optimistic would react

(Don’t give up, keep going)

it has perseverance but its a naive statement by ignoring the previous failures)

Tragic optimistic

people who are tragic optimistic can overcomes pessimism without retreating into naive lies

(seven falls and eight rises , I have failed 4th time, which is also mean that I am half way to success!)

When failure occur, first we need to acknowledge, then only we can grow from it.

in “Inside Out”, Joy (Optimism) is trying so hard to lock away Sadness (Pessimism), but it completely backfire and caused Riley into a mental breakdown.

To save Riley, Joy and Sadness work together, creating a new core memory consisting of happiness and sadness.

Seven falls is indeed painful, but it is require in order to achieve Eight raises.

The Fall out Boy say it best: Best of us can find happiness in misery
